Meet Rev. David Florence
Rev. David Florence has been a Unity student for 30 years. He was ordained in the class of 1995 and has served ministries in Michigan and Florida.

He is Unity Church of Metairie's minister as well as co-minister with his wife the Rev. Christy Hancock at Unity Spiritual Center in Long Beach, MS.

In 1990 Rev. David facilitated the formation of the only successful Young Adults of Unity group in the movement. This group became the precursor to the now active and thriving Next Generation Unity.

Rev. David also is a past Chair of the Association of Unity Churches' World Wide Services Team, which set policies and procedures for and approves start-up ministries nationwide. This Team also oversaw the distribution of Pioneering, Starlight International and Target City Grants. He is currently Co-Chair of the new Pioneering Grant Team.

In 1998, after a tornado devastated areas of Kissimmee, Florida, Rev. David worked with the local hospital and area shelters to reunite over 20 families separated by the disaster. He subsequently oversaw the distribution of thousands of dollars in donations, sent as relief by other Unity churches, to local relief groups and ministries. Again in Key West in October of 2005, after Hurricane Wilma, he initiated emergency relief and clean-up efforts after the storm flooded the island and destroyed the church. Arranging to hold services at the local synagogue during the rebuilding time, they never missed a Sunday. He initiated fundraising campaigns and rebuilding teams to create new a church building, raising $120,000 in 10 months for the work ahead. He and his core volunteers also created and implemented a “World Prayer Day” for rebuilding efforts. They sent letters to every Unity center around the world inviting them to send written prayers to be put in walls of the new facility, and join in prayer for Unity of the Keys on the same day.

In October of 2006 he married Rev. Christy and joined her at Unity Spiritual Center as co-minister. He and Christy continue their post-Katrina rebuilding work in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area through active support of local organizations, and offering a variety of inspiring messages, speakers and special services designed to encourage and support an ongoing foundation and expression of Spirit through the church and its congregation.

David is a strong believer in the Unity teachings of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore and holds the teachings of Jesus Christ as his spiritual foundation. He is an accomplished speaker and is committed to offering regular opportunities for seekers through classes and special opportunities for prayer and meditation in special services that empower participants to reach their highest spiritual potential.

His vision of ministry is to “promote a clear expression of God's Love and Presence in the church and its members, by co-creating with them a spiritually empowering, safe environment for the discernment of Self-awareness through prayer, teaching, and service. Encouraging and exemplifying the daily application of Unity principles."
